Reconciliation

Every person knows the experience of needing a fresh start. In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, often called Confession, we bring our sins honestly to God and receive his mercy, forgiveness, and peace through the ministry of the priest.

Catholics believe that Jesus gave the Church this sacrament because he does not want us to remain trapped by sin, shame, or distance from God. Reconciliation restores our friendship with God and helps repair the ways sin can wound our relationships with other people and with the Church. It is a sacrament of healing, not a test to be passed.

You do not need to have the right words prepared before you come. The priest is there to help. If it has been a long time since your last Confession, you are welcome to say so. He will walk you through the sacrament with patience and care.

First Reconciliation for Children

Children in second grade and older prepare for First Reconciliation through the parish’s faith-formation program. Families receive material to work through at home, and parents are encouraged to take part in Adult Formation. Completing First Reconciliation preparation is required before a child registers for Confirmation and First Eucharist preparation.

Faith formation is a shared work of the parish and the family. If you have questions about your child’s preparation, the parish will help you understand the current schedule, parent meetings, and next steps.

A Good Time to Begin Again

Whether you come regularly, are preparing for another sacrament, or have been away from the Church for many years, you are welcome. Come as you are, ask for help if you need it, and allow the Lord to meet you with mercy.
