Anointing of the Sick
llness, surgery, and the frailty that can come with age can bring real uncertainty for a person and the people who love them. You do not need to carry that alone. If you or someone close to you is facing a serious health concern, please reach out to the parish.
In the Anointing of the Sick, Christ meets the person who is ill with his mercy, peace, and strength. The Church prays for healing and entrusts the person to the Lordโs care. This sacrament is for those who are seriously ill, preparing for serious surgery, or experiencing the frailty of old age. It is not only for a person in the final moments of life.
The sacrament does not promise a particular physical outcome. It does assure the person who is ill that the Church is present with them in prayer and that Christ is close to them in suffering. Many people receive strength, courage, and peace through this sacrament. If the person is able, the parish can also help them prepare to receive Reconciliation, often called Confession, as part of their spiritual care.
